Pull in on the green grass of the historic Tenterfield Showground. Powered and unpowered sites, a friendly caretaker on the gate, and the main street a short walk away.
Camping at the showground
Tenterfield Showground is used by many community groups, and for camping for caravan travellers beside the beautiful Tenterfield Creek.
The grass is kept mown and neat, the sites are spacious rather than crammed together, and everything is within walking distance: supermarkets, the Post Office, retail shops, coffee shops, the newsagent and the Tenterfield Visitor Information Centre.
There's no online booking form to fill in. Just call the caretaker, or call in at the caretaker's cottage when you arrive.
Your stay
This is a showground campground, not a resort. You get good grass, a quiet night and a caretaker who keeps the place tidy. Here's what's on offer.
Plenty of both, all on grass. Guests have told us they paid $30 to $35 for a powered site. Call the caretaker for tonight's rate.
Hot showers for campers. One guest called the water pressure absolutely fantastic.
Top up your tanks before you head back onto the New England Highway.
Open to campground guests and the general public. The cost is a donation to the Westpac Helicopter Rescue Service.
Dogs are welcome. Please keep them on a lead while you're on the grounds.
Supermarkets, the Post Office, coffee shops, the newsagent and the Visitor Information Centre are all within walking distance.
Creekside
The camping area runs along the creek, under big gums, with the hills that ring Tenterfield in the background. Ask the caretaker about the creekside sites when you call.

Getting here
Turn left if you're coming from the south, or right if you're coming from the north, off the New England Highway into Miles Street, at the Visitor Information Centre.
The showground entrance is 200 metres along on the right.
All campers report to the caretaker before entering the camp ground. Call in at the caretaker's cottage, or ring ahead on 0499 885 386.

One of Tenterfield's historical precincts
You're not camping in a paddock off the highway. You're staying on the Tenterfield Showground, one of the town's historical precincts, with a grandstand, the J H Reid Pavilion and a 1915 brick building of the Tenterfield Pastoral, Agricultural & Mining Society. Take a wander before dinner.
The showground is still used by many community groups today, so you may share the grounds with an event during your stay.
Hire the grounds
The pavilion, shearing complex, grandstand, dining and kitchen area, and bar and BBQ area are all available for hire for private and public events, community organisations and schools.
Talk to the caretakers by phone or email to start, or contact the Show Secretary for the land managers.
The showground is made available by appointment to rest livestock, including travelling horses and cattle.

The caretaker was lovely she explained the do's and don'ts of the show grounds it was a awesome stay here and the showers were absolutely fantastic great water pressure definitely didn't want to get out highly recommend this place to travellers 👍😊

Very clean. Freshly mowed beautiful green grass. Creekside camps lovely. Site 10 I think had best view. There are limited shower and toilets but we didn't use them. $35 with power. Very impressed.Walk to Coles and main street. Definitely use again. Also has a dump point.
